Blood

Last Thursday, June 21, 2007 at exactly 8:45:35pm I received such text message:

Pls read Acts 15:28 and Leviticus 17:10-12. If you have your Bible at home.. Would you still eat blood or "dinuguan?"

Of course I have a Bible at home. My Bible is well kept, clean of dust and put up nicely in my shelf. It's one of my so-called valued possessions like any other of my mythology books. Before I would answer that hanging question of still wanting to eat blood, I would like to point out that I am fond of eating blood, internal organs (even brains, yes), exotic dishes, raw and half cooked stuff simply because they taste good (at least for me). That is also safe to say the Dinuguan is one of my favorite Filipino dish.

Now, to explain what the heck a Dinuguan is, Dinuguan, for all Filipinos are aware of, is a kind of Filipino dish on which, pork blood is cooked with some pork meat and chili and made into stew. For more info, read this and don't ask me for a recipe.

Going back to the topic at hand, let me post what the King James Bible has to say with the verses left for me.
Acts 15:28:

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

Given that first statement, I couldn't even sleep properly thinking about what relation does it have to do with "blood." So in conclusion, I still do not get why that statement.
Leviticus 17:10-12:

10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.

11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

That said, I would accept that his reasoning for not eating blood is because, God says so. Therefore, as an obedient child, one must heed his fathers words. Although, if you would read the later verses 13-15, you would have a clear explanation of why the Bible says so. I guess it's a form of respect to every living being not to eat their blood. For according the Bible, eating a blood of no matter what being it is, it would mean that you are cutting off of his life because his life/soul lies within it's blood.

Thus, I concluded, on this day forth, I would continue to eat blood, in respect to all beings of the Earth. This would mean that I am cutting their life/soul and they will suffer no more for the sake of this eternally damned world. And such is my way of kindness.

You see, the moment you were born is this world, the moment your first cry was heard, is that very moment that you are bound to invisible chains that binds you to this world - chains that binds you to sin, suffering and misery. Even if you reach your death, you would still be kept bounded to this world. And if what the Bible said was true, I would gladly eat your blood. For in that moment, a mere me, a sinful me, could at least free you of those chains.

I wouldn't care less if God's children couldn't see my empathy on this, but as an Atheist, I love other things more than I love God.

Err.. I just received a text message from Gabby saying that he's given me a wrong verse. XD Here's the right one.
Acts 15:29:

29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.

How would you know if the food served to you was from a strangled animal? Define "sexual immorality." How would you know if something is sexually immoral and not? Does that include S+M? "You will do well to avoid such things" would be a good advice, though. :)

  1. I can't stand the bible or religion for that matter. All it is are people telling you how to behave what to do where to go and what do you get out of it? Something that isn't even proven when you die.

  2. ummmm, just wan to know what S+M exactly mean? (i am thinking sex and marriage, but i could be wrong  anyway, as for my 2 cents, "sexual morality's" definition differs per country, religion and alot of other factors.

  4. I'm a Christian and I still eat Dinuguan, i eat grilled chicken blood at the sidewalk, eat La Paz Batchoy, and I don't care. They came from animals which are made to be eaten anyway. I'm not feeling guilty of anything as long as I don't take human blood. It's not the food that distinguishes a good person form a bad one. I think even God thought of that logic. *wtf*

  5. joyfulchicken,
I think you should start running away, or else Arlo will drain your blood, grill it and eat it away. (Since you are a chicken.. and all.. >.>)

They came from animals which are made to be eaten anyway.

    Arlo,
That's the funniest comment, I received so far. Also, God, in my opinion, doesn't think. He doesn't need to. What he wants, he commands. What he wants, he gets.

It's funny but it's a fact. That's how nature goes. If a new breed of dominant species come along and feed on humans, then we can't do anything about it. They'll also say that we're meant to be eaten anyway.

Also, God, in my opinion, doesn't think. He doesn't need to. What he wants, he commands. What he wants, he gets.

I really love the term in my opinion when it comes to posting comments. Three words but it gives so much respect. I think God is otherwise, in my opinion. ;-)

  12. Um, who died and made Euri the Queen of Biblical passages? LOL!

As far as I know, our friends from the Iglesia Ni Cristo prohibit the ingestion of blood. Blood is life. Absolute, sacred, blah di frickin blah blah.

But I say I don't give a flying fuck. Hell, I don't even eat such thing! Only those overzealous types adhere to that type of thinking. Big turn off, if you ask me.

Oh, and just so you know, I treasure my Bible as well. In fact, Jesus signed my Bible dammit! LOL.

    Kbai.

  16. You are all misunderstanding the Bible and God.

    Mark 7:19
For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")

  17. You are all misunderstanding the Bible and God.

Dear, do not tell me that. Tell that to the INC people. Then, have a Biblical bashing with them. It would probably take about a hundred years or so and in the end, no one wins. It would be late until you guys realize that the Bible is contradicting itself. Then, about that period of enlightenment, people would just realize that God never existed in the first place. And the Bible? It's written by mere humans who wanted to share their piece of Philosophy because during those times, blogs doesn't exist.

    My two cents. ;)

    Mark 7:19
For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")

If I hate human flesh, and considered it "food", it is therefore, "clean"?

  18. Well...it's all in how you read it. Some passages say to sacrifice something or other (I haven't read The Bible too well...my bad) and others say to be forgiving and tolerant, yet people take them to mean "start a witch hunt".

The idea of eating blood is a little off-putting to most. But people eat animal blood in meat anyway. There's no way to remove all traces of blood from meat. Yes, the actual red juice (blood) cooks off, but that meat is still part of the animal that the blood nourished.

Thing is, people are going to claim to understand The Bible, but we won't know if we're right till we die. So if people want to prove themselves right...kidding, I'm not that mean, but honestly, everybody just quit pretending to completely understand the entire meaning of and the way to interpret the word of God unless you're possessed by the Holy Spirit and proceeding to write the New New Testament.

Sheesh, religious arguments are annoying...You always have some of those morons who haven't read their own book and the people who don't believe at all just goading them into a fight. Why bother starting a fight? Why provoke people? Sheesh!

This probably made no sense, but oh well. I'm not good with religious arguments because I've never been made to read The Bible. (Well, I did have one of those kid's versions, but my favorite part was Genesis, so guess what the only part I read to memorize was?)

    Common sense lang Euri?

  20. Common sense lang Euri?

Too bad, common sense isn't so common. There are things that may be "common sense" to you, but not to everybody. Of course, I wanna hear/read it straight from you. :)

What if, according to my common sense, eating human flesh is "clean?" As long as that flesh does not belong to my clan, it is therefore, clean? If you leave everything to "common sense", then there would never be clean or dirty, right or wrong, moral and immoral.

  21. I still clearly remember what my Theo1... it's something like treat the bible as a huge story book, not a history book.

This is getting much more of a religious debate. Some "religious" people think that the bible the just like the "supreme being" -perfect. Jesus Christ, "original" bible was written in Aramaic and is now translated to many languages. How sure are some people there that the translations had been accurate????

By the way, I don't eat dinuguan. It's not about the blood...but rather the taste. I can't get acquainted to it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Regardless of how the animal died, we still eat it. It's food and that's how we survive. Those same animals have killed other animals and ate them for survival as well. It's a chain reaction of life.

If someone placed 2 chicken wings in front of me and stated that #1 was strangled and #2 was raped, you know which one I'd choose? The biggest piece. ;-)

  23. I think religion is a way to control people. They tell you things and people believe. Religion is trying to take over the world, I say. It could be something similar to the Holocaust but without all of the killing...-_-;

    ReplyDelete
  24. blood is not given by God to us as food. That's the mean reason why we should not eat blood.

When Christ said that all that goes in our mouth is clean, it doesn't mean that Christ allowed us to eat blood. If you'll examine the new testament, Christians are prohibited to eat blood.

  25. selboy,
Thanks for sharing. But your statements are rather too vague. I am left with tons of questions such as:

    1. Are you also an INC? (But this is not important.)
    2. Did you even read this post before commenting?
    3. Which verse in the Bible are your statements from? Or you just said whatever that you think is right and/or would defend that fact that God forbade the eating/drinking of blood.

    And so on...

  26. I really can't understand why Bible find favor with so many people. One of my friends is a Bible crazy!
